Detail information about job Research Associate. Terms and conditions vacancy

Campus: Royal Brompton

We are looking for a Research Associate to provide support for the pre-clinical phase of a translational research programme aimed at assessing a lentiviral vector uniquely engineered for gene transfer to the lungs within the Gene Therapy Section at the NHLI.

The research programme is led by Professors Eric Alton and Uta Griesenbach. The Gene Therapy Section is a multi-disciplinary research team and is part of the UK Gene Therapy Consortium.

In 2001, the UK Cystic Fibrosis Gene Therapy Consortium was formed to pool the expertise and resources of three major groups in the UK (Oxford and Edinburgh Universities and Imperial College), progressing from laboratory studies to the first demonstration that gene therapy can produce improvements in the lungs of CF patients in a Phase 2b clinical trial. This new project will bring together both the translational science and the teams’ expertise in evaluating new therapeutics in clinical trials for the treatment of other lung conditions. Our aim is to rapidly translate our Lentiviral gene delivery platform for a portfolio of diseases. The funds supporting this research project are provided by The Wellcome Trust.

You will have a dual role splitting time approximately 50% into setting up and run a core facility aimed at assessing gene transfer efficiency in pre-clinical models and 50% developing a research programme aligned with the overall aims of the translational research programme.

You will also be expected to contribute to supervision of technicians and students, and participate in teaching related activities within College as well as identifying and developing suitable techniques, and apparatus, for the collection and analysis of data.

Other duties include but are not limited to; conduct data analysis, write reports for submission to research sponsors and direct the work of small research teams.

You should have a PhD in Molecular Biology or related discipline or equivalent research and have knowledge of gene therapy, vectorology and vector production. It is essential you have practical experience in a broad range of laboratory techniques such as vector production, in vitro and in vivo gene transfer, molecular biology, tissue culture and be computer literate with a good knowledge of different computer programs with experience in data presentation and statistical analyses.

The post is full-time and fixed-term until 30 September 2022. Should you have any queries please contact: Professor Uta Griesenbach - [email protected]
