Closing Date: 23.59 hours BST on Monday 25 September 2017

This post is advertised in conjunction with R170380 (Lecturer in Politics/International Relations) and R170379 (Senior Lecturer in Politics/International Relations).  If you would like to be considered for more than one post, you need to submit a separate application for each (Lecturer – Reference number R170380; Senior Lecturer – Reference number R170379; Reader - Reference number R170384).

The School of Languages and Social Sciences is an ambitious, expanding, multidisciplinary School with an established reputation for excellence in teaching and research.

The Politics and International Relations department is seeking to make up to two appointments at Lecturer, Senior Lecturer or Reader level in Politics or International Relations from 2ndJanuary 2018, or by negotiation at a date thereafter. Strong candidates from any sub-field of Politics or International Relations, including all area specialisms, are encouraged to apply. At least one appointee will be expected to teach modules in the area of International Relations.

The successful candidate will be an internationally-recognised scholar and will play a key leadership role in the organisation, development and promotion of the academic activities of the Politics and International Relations Department, as well as within the wider School and University. Providing guidance and encouragement to the present gifted team of academics will be important, as will the expansion and enhancement of postgraduate teaching and research.  We would expect an applicant appointed at this level to have the ambition and aptitude to progress to the level of Chair in the coming years.

We host the Aston Centre for Europe (ACE), an innovative inter-disciplinary hub for research, policy advice and teaching, which is co-directed by members of the PIR group.  ACE has a broad research agenda, and is by no means confined to a narrow view of European politics.  We would, however, be interested in receiving strong applications from any area of our discipline, and would welcome applications from candidates who share our view that it is important for scholars to engage outside academia, as well as within it.
