King’s India Institute, School of Global Affairs, King’s College London invites applications for two PhD student Fellowships funded as part of the Marie Curie European Training Networks, under the European Commission’s H2020 Framework Programme.

The recruited PhD students will join the Global India European Training Network (Global India ETN). This network brings together six leading European Universities, six leading Indian Universities and six non-university partners and will focus on India’s emergence as global regional power and its relationship with the EU. 

This ambitious and inspiring network will train 15 PhD students working on topics which have been organized into four themes:1) Indian democracy and social inequality; 2) External economics and trade: 3) External relations – foreign and security policy; 4) India and Global Politics

All students will spend a semester in an Indian University and have a work placement in one of the non-university partners. In the four years of the programme there will be 10 network events in both Europe and India

The research will be performed in large international collaborations, making use of the wealth of data and knowledge available across all the network partners

The students will be based in King’s College London at the Stand Campus and will be part of the India Institute. Their lead PhD supervisor will be either Dr Louise Tillin or Professor Harsh Pant.

Located at the centre of London’s academic and cultural life, the India Institute organises regular events, including seminars, lectures and round-table discussions, and hosts a number of visiting fellowships for academics and practitioners in different fields. Members of the institute are actively engaged with government, policy-makers, media and industry in India, the UK and beyond. They have relationships with a number of universities and research organisations in India. 

We welcome applications from candidates with excellent Bachelors and Masters’ degrees in relevant fields in the social sciences (such as Political Science, International Relations, Development Studies, Economics or Sociology). The candidates should have a keen interest in interdisciplinary research covering social inequality, politics, economics or international relations depending on their proposed subject of study. 

According to the requirements of the prestigious Marie Sklodowska Curie Training Programme, applicants may not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, study, etc.) for more than 12 months in the last 3 years in the country of the host institute of a position of interest. Applicants should have an excellent proficiency in written and spoken English. A mobility allowance is part of the employment package. These should be Early Stage Researchers who are early to mid-career researchers and have not been awarded a doctoral degree. 

The selection process will include assessment of research proposals and application materials, along with a panel interview.
