Detail information about job Funded MSc by Research Studentship: Evaluation of the Ospreys in the Community School Programme. Terms and conditions vacancy

Swansea University is a UK top 30 institution for research excellence (Research Excellence Framework 2014), and has been named Welsh University of the Year 2017 by The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide.

*This scholarship is part funded by the Welsh Government’s European Social Fund (ESF) convergence programme for West Wales and the Valleys.

Ospreys in the Community is a registered charity with a mission to provide, inspire, motivate, and empower young people to make positive life choices, by using the power of their brand and players as role models to deliver programmes in a different manner to existing businesses. In seeking to fulfil this mission, Ospreys in the Community are specifically interested in enhancing young people’s engagement in healthy lifestyle choices, participation in sport, and most importantly encouraging “at risk” individuals to continue to engage in school and obtain employment. Since their establishment two years ago Ospreys in the community have been extremely successful in engaging with young people, having delivered different programmes to over 20000 young people in the Ospreylia region (Swansea, Neath, Port Talbot and Bridgend).

The purpose of this MSc by Research is to evaluate the school programme delivered by Ospreys in the Community and assess the impact on children’s engagement in education, as well as their broader health and wellbeing. The successful candidate will work closely with Ospreys in the Community throughout this project.

Scholarships are collaborative awards with external partners including SME’s and micro companies, as well as public and third sector organisations. The scholarship provides 1 year funding with a 3 month period to complete the thesis. The achievement of a postgraduate skills development award, PSDA, is compulsory for each KESS II scholar and is based on a 30 credit award.

Academic requirements:Candidates should have a 2.1 or above in a sport and exercise science, sport coaching, psychology, or other related subject undergraduate degree. Experience of qualitative research is also beneficial although not essential.

Residency criteria:Candidates should be eligible for UK/EU Fees.
