Detail information about job Senior Research Associate in Hydrological Modelling. Terms and conditions vacancy

We are seeking a Senior Research Associate to work on a new research project using satellite Earth observation data to improve drought resilience in Ethiopia and Kenya, to support sustainable livelihoods and economic development. The role focuses on the analysis of meteorological and hydrological conditions that lead to drought emergencies in Kenya and Ethiopia using a combination of in situ observations and satellite remote sensing.

The post is funded by the UK Space Agency’s International Partnership Programme and you will be required to collaborate with scientists from partner organisations in the UK and overseas. You will be offered significant opportunities to develop innovative science-based solutions to pressing problems in hydrology, Earth observation, water resources modelling and overseas development.

The successful candidate must hold a PhD/DPhil (or have recently submitted) and be experienced hydrologist, Earth observation scientist, or water resources specialist. A strong track record of publication in the scientific literature and a genuine motivation to address applied challenges in hydrology is essential. The applicant may come from a hydrological, Earth observation, water resources, environmental physics or engineering background, with experience of process-based modelling at a range of scales, and of detailed analysis of high resolution EO data sets.

The appointment will be offered at Grade 8 for a fixed salary of £39,324 p.a. If no suitable applicant is forthcoming at this grade, an appointment at Grade 7 (£31,076 - £38,183 p.a.) with an appropriate adjustment of duties may be considered.

This is a full-time post for a fixed-term of 2 years.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online. You will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your online application.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on Friday 15 September 2017, and interviews will be held on 26 September 2017.
