Detail information about job Asbestos Surveyor. Terms and conditions vacancy

Estates Services is responsible for managing the University of Oxford’s estate within Oxfordshire: 235 buildings used for teaching, research and administration and another 140 commercially managed properties including offices and land.

In response to changes in asbestos management best practice, the Conservation and Buildings team, within Estates Services, are seeking two new team members to provide a dedicated resource responsible for asbestos management and wider compliance monitoring.

Working with the University Safety Office and a range of contractors, customers and colleagues, both roles will initially focus on reviewing existing asbestos management procedures and policies, leading to the development and implementation of a revised University Asbestos Management Protocol.

As the Asbestos Surveyor, you will provide expert advice on asbestos matters, effectively and quickly making decisions whilst taking into account the University’s legal obligations, industry best practice and statutory requirements. Working with the Asbestos and Compliance Manager, you will manage the asbestos risk register; undertake asbestos surveys; investigate issues arising from the surveys, ensuring all completed works are undertaken with due care; and produce high quality asbestos related documents which are clear, accessible and comply with relevant statutory and contractual requirements.

We are looking for someone who has experience of working in a similar role and holds the suitable relevant qualifications as detailed in the selection criteria. You will have the ability to communicate at all levels, demonstrating excellent and effective inter-personal skills. Experience of having worked with the Planon Buildings Maintenance Database system is desirable, however, practical experience of the application of computer based databases along with good IT skills is the essential requirement.

This post is part of a pilot scheme testing a new Supporting Evidence form in place of the more usual ‘supporting statement’. Please ensure that you carefully read the How to Apply section provided in the Job Description, which you can download below along with the required Supporting Evidence form.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on Thursday 21 September 2017.

Please note that the University of Oxford's retirement policy is changing. With effect from October 1 2017, all employees at Grade 8 and above will have a retirement age of 68, and all employees at Grades 6 and 7 will no longer have a set retirement age.
