The Powertrain and Vehicle Research Centre (PVRC) and the Department of Psychology at the University of Bath are recruiting a Research Associate to be responsible for providing specific research management and undertaking research work for the Connected Fully Integrated Driving Ecosystem (CON-FIDE) joint project.

The CON-FIDE project aims to investigate the benefits of advanced driver information systems in terms of improved fuel consumption and the potential to reduce regulated emissions. The Research Associate will be expected to directly assist in the delivery of the project work packages.

Based at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, PVRC is a leading centre for theoretical, experimental and analytical research into powertrain systems in the UK. PVRC has an excellent track record in delivering industry-relevant projects, and has long established collaborations with industrial partners. The Centre considers its remit to be all of the links in the chain from energy storage to its conversion into mechanical work on board a vehicle. The recently secured £49m investment for the Institute of Advanced Automotive Propulsion Systems (IAAPS) will propel PVRC into a global leading position.

The Department of Psychology is world-renowned for its expertise in a broad spectrum of topics in psychology, with people who work together across the traditional boundaries.

Applicants should possess a PhD degree, or an equivalent professional qualification, in subject area of direct relevance for the project and have research experience. Applicants must have experience of in thermal or electrical propulsion. Experience or motivation in any combination of powertrains systems, vehicle data networks, telematics, system level optimisation and human factors will be beneficial. Candidates should be self-motivated and possess project management and technical communication skills. Interests in and ability to carry out interdisciplinary research will be crucial.

This position is full time (36.5 hours per week) and is being offered on a fixed term contract basis with an expected expiry date of 31 May 2019.
