Detail information about job Research Assistant in Archaeology (6 hours per week). Terms and conditions vacancy
The School of History, Classics and Archaeology seeks to appoint a Research Assistant who will assist in the design and creation of a database on environmental change in Prehistoric Shetland. This project has been awarded funding from the University Challenge Investment Fund.
The role will require working with standard software and knowledge on datasets generated by archaeological excavations. The candidate will be in charge of identifying and processing archaeological datasets potentially linked to adaptive processes. The data-search requires the extensive use of existing search engines and data-repositories, and the contact with other researchers wiling to contribute to the project.
Candidates will have an undergraduate degree in Archaeology or a related subject and a background on Prehistoric Europe and particularly Scotland.
Applications from current PhD students are welcome and should be made in line with University recommendations that PhD students work no more than 6 hours a week.
We would expect no more than 180 hours to be undertaken on an annual basis should the successful applicant/post-holder be a current PhD student in the University of Edinburgh.
