Detail information about job Postdoctoral Research Associate. Terms and conditions vacancy

Introduction / the Role

Applications are invited to apply for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in supramolecular biomaterials science to work with Professor David Smith in the Department of Chemistry, University of York. Funded by the EPSRC (UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council), the project involves the development of innovative multi-component, multi-domain supramolecular hydrogels and applying them to achieve directed tissue growth (co-supervised by Professor Paul Genever, Department of Biology, University of York). The PDRA will join a team led by Professor David Smith, and in addition to research responsibilities, the PDRA will be expected to assist with the supervision of more junior group members.

The position is available from 1st November 2017.

The main duties of the role are to conduct research into the development of innovative multi-component multi-domain supramolecular hydrogels and to apply these hydrogels in the control of tissue growth. You will also contribute to the production of research outputs relating to this technology and assist in the identification and development of potential further areas of research.

Key requirements

You will require a PhD in supramolecular chemistry, soft matter science or biomaterials, including knowledge and experience of a range of research techniques and methodologies (e.g. synthesis, self-assembly, materials characterisation, and experimental design). You should be willing to work in a highly multidisciplinary environment and be enthusiastic to develop new skills in biology if you don’t already have them. You will have an understanding of the operation of a research lab and awareness of health and safety. You will be highly self-motivated, with good time management, communication, collaboration and IT skills. You will have ability to write up research work for publication in high profile journals and engage in public dissemination.
