The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for research in tropical diseases. Through the creation of effective links with governments, organisations and institutions and by responding to the health needs of communities, LSTM aims to promote improved health, particularly for people of the less developed / resource poorest countries in the tropics and sub-tropics.

We require an experienced Programme Manager to assume responsibility for the operation management of a newly awarded grant. The Partnership to Increase the Impact of Vector Controls (PIIVeC) project, brings together leading research institutes and national disease control programmes form Malawi, Burkina Faso and Cameroon to develop evidence based solutions and increase national capacity to reduce the burden of vector borne diseases.

The Programme Manager will be responsible for the day to day management of the activities of the partnership to ensure the objectives are met and for ensuring the legacy of the programme by developing a sustainable mentorship scheme for the research fellows recruited by PIIVeC. The post holder will also work closely with country coordinators in each of the partner countries to develop and cost a programme of operational research and hence a good working knowledge of the benefits and challenges of operational research in global health is essential for this role. The post holder will play a pivotal role in the coordination of activities recruited to the project, acting as the key point of contact for the research fellows and country coordinators and helping develop and monitor workplans. Travel to the partner countries will be required as part of this role.

You will hold a relevant postgraduate qualification in a relevant subject area and have a commitment to continuous professional development at senior level. It is essential that the Programme Manager has proven experience of managing complex projects with multiple partners in resource-poor settings, as well as experience of benchmarking, identifying and analysing measures and monitoring success of activities. With a background in mentoring and influencing peers, you must also be able to demonstrate a background in operational and/or implementation research. You will have well-developed communication and organisational skills, along with the capability to develop effective working relationships with colleagues and partners in a multicultural environment with confidence, tact and diplomacy.
