An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Research and Enterprise Office (REO) at the University of Essex, in the newly created post of Research Impact Manager.

The REO supports and enables excellent research with impact to be conducted within this world-leading research intensive university, which is proud to be both top 20 for research excellence (REF 2014), and Gold rated in the Teaching Excellence Framework (2017).

The Role and Duties

The successful candidate will join a lively and friendly team of almost 50 professionals in the REO, working to enable research development, knowledge exchange and wider impact, engagement with businesses, and having institutional research planning and governance responsibilities.

Working with academics across the University, the post-holder will lead on delegated projects that support the delivery of the University’s Research Strategy and impact priorities, in particular overseeing the development of high quality impact case studies as part of our REF 2021 preparations, co-ordinating the delivery of our public policy impact and engagement plans, and promoting a culture of research excellence with impact across all disciplines.

You will also be responsible for line managing and supporting a small team of Research Impact Officers working across the University.

Qualifications and Skills

You will be educated to degree level, or equivalent in any discipline, and will have a good understanding of the research environment coupled with comprehensive knowledge of the research impact agenda and the role of impact in the REF. You will be familiar with policy-making bodies and processes, and the opportunities these present for research engagement. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and experience of working productively with both academics and professionals beyond academia. You will lead a small team of Research Impact Officers, and experience of managing a team within a higher education, research, or policy context is essential.
