Full-time fixed term contract for two years

In this role you will develop and carry out research comparing the welfare implications of techniques to collect DNA samples from zebrafish and sticklebacks. Specifically, you will combine measurements of behaviour, activation of the stress axis and long-term changes to health following fin clipping or skin swabbing. You will take a leading role in collecting and analysing experimental data, preparing the data for dissemination and inclusion in conference presentations and scientific publications.
The position will involve integrating into a team of scientists including cooperation with PhD students and technicians working on related projects. The post holder will be responsible to Dr Will Norton (University of Leicester) and Dr Iain Barber (Nottingham Trent University).
The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in a subject area relevant to the project, with significant, relevant laboratory experience and extensive knowledge of the research field. You will also have significant experience in some or all of the following laboratory techniques and skills: rearing and handling zebrafish and sticklebacks; measuring behaviour; molecular biology including qPCR; preparation of samples for histology.
