The Research Department of Structural and Molecular Biology, led by Professor Gabriel Waksman, is an integral part of the Institute of Structural and Molecular Biology, an institute conducting world-class research in the field of protein science.
We are currently looking to appoint a Research Associate to join Professor Matilda Katan’s group. The post holder will be an active member of a research team contributing to the development of research projects, experimental design, data collection and manuscript preparation. The post-holder will be expected to produce independent, original contributions to the subject area.
This post is available from 1st October 2017 for 36 months in the first instance.
The successful candidate must hold (or be close to obtaining) a PhD in structural biology or biochemistry. It is also essential to have proven knowledge of research techniques and methodologies such as protein purification and characterization and structural determination using electron microscopy (EM). Other essential criteria include demonstrable comprehensive knowledge of signal transduction in the area of cancer biology. You will have a proven ability to generate, analyse and write up experimental data and keep records.
Demonstrable knowledge of DNA manipulations and cell culture is desirable. Please note: Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Research Assistant Grade 6B (salary £29,809 - £31,432 per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis (including corrections).
