Salary
£28,936 to £32,548 per annum pro-rata if part time , together with USS pension benefits if required.
The normal expectation is that the successful applicant will be appointed to the minimum of the scale with annual increments on 1 October each year subject to completing six months service .
Grade 7.
Two fixed term positions available until 31 March 2021.

Main Purpose of the Post
This post is for two full-time postdoctoral researchers to join the In Vitro Toxicology research group at Swansea University Medical School. The post is funded by the European Commission as part of the H2020 project ‘Physiologically Anchored Tools for Realistic nanOmateriaL hazard aSsessment PATROLS ’. It is fixed-term position for 42 months from the start of the project estimated to be 1st October 2017 .
PATROLS is a €12.7million project aimed at establishing and standardizing the next generation of advanced safety assessment tools for improved prediction of the adverse effects caused by chronic engineered nanomaterials ENM exposure in human and environmental systems. It will focus on delivering: 1 physiologically representative multi-cellular in vitro 3D lung, gastrointestinal tract and liver models; 2 cross-species models integrating human and environmental safety testing; 3 innovative ecotoxicity bioassays in several organisms across a food chain; 4 robust in silico models for dosimetry, interspecies toxicity extrapolation and hazard prediction. A systems biology approach will also be adopted to identify key events linked to adverse outcome pathways, informing mechanism-based endpoints associated with real-life ENM exposures.
The successful candidates will play a central role in the development and implementation of human 3D liver models Post 1 and co-culture lung models Post 2 , coupled to mechanistic bioassays utilising these novel model systems.
The individuals recruited to this post will be high calibre post-doctoral research scientists with a broad skill base for research study design, set-up, implementation, data analysis / interpretation and reporting. Ideally, you already possess a doctorate in a relevant field or be near completion. Excellent cell culture experience will be expected and it will be beneficial if the individual has experience in growth of co-culture or 3D cell culture models. Experience of handling ENM exposures within in vitro test systems is highly desirable. Other skills that will be of benefit include experience in toxicology, cell and molecular biology and nanomaterial characterisation.
