Software Engineering has a long history at Lancaster and we pride ourselves on balancing academic excellence with impact by addressing real-world challenges. This role offers an opportunity to provide leadership and vision for research and teaching of the highest international quality and to help secure our reputation as world leaders in this field into the future.

Indicative themes of interest include (but are not limited to) software requirements, software design and architecture, software engineering for adaptive systems, software engineering for large scale and complex distributed systems (incl. Internet of Things), software testing and analysis, model driven software development (incl. models at run-time), software engineering for multi-agent systems, software engineering for socio-technical systems, software engineering for society, and sustainable software design. We are seeking candidates that will mesh well with our existing strengths and be prepared to drive engagements with strategic initiatives including Lancaster’s multi-disciplinary research institutes in data science, cyber security, social futures, innovative manufacturing, and our £41m health innovation campus development.

You will have a substantial, well-established international reputation for cutting-edge research in Software Engineering as evidenced by a track record of excellent publications in leading venues and significant peer-esteem indicators. You should also have a proven ability to develop and direct a research team, to secure significant research funding, and to generate substantial impact.

Teaching is equally important to us: we expect all candidates to be committed teachers and to contribute to the development of our portfolio of courses, including our international partnerships. The School offers innovative studio-based undergraduate and postgraduate degrees that offers the opportunity to engage with small cohorts of enthusiastic students in dedicated studio-style spaces and experiment with teaching and learning methods.
