Department
Manchester School of Art is a centre of excellence in teaching and practice led research, located in the centre of Manchester, a city that is now the second largest creative, digital and media hub in Europe. The creative industries are growing faster here than in any other city in the UK, with the recent development of Media City and Space film Studios as markers of the ambition Manchester fosters.
The university is committed to contributing to the creative future of the city by working in partnership with professionals at national and international levels. We produce innovative researchers and graduates who have originality, creativity and ambition to lead the future development of their related industry. The BA (Hons) Filmmaking is evolving and has become one of the largest undergraduate programmes in the Manchester School of Art, and is central to the future planning for an international Screen School, with an advisory board co-chaired by Danny Boyle and Nicola Schindler. The filmmaking degree offers a unique programme that blends industry film production standards, with artist moving image traditions, grounding learning within an art school ethos with a commercial industry facing sensibility.
We aim to produce the most creative and stylish students (from professional artists to commercial movie directors). Recent alumni have won BFI producers vision awards, the prestigious Deutsche bank award for Creative Enterprise and Elton John’s ‘The Cut’ music video competition.
Role
We are looking for a narrative/drama filmmaker to join our vision. You will support the programme leader in implementing professional standards of production, in particular supporting the leadership of the third year and students Major Projects. We have created a production company for this purpose, culminating in a film festival screening at HOME, Manchester's stunning new art house cinema. We are looking to add to our team someone with skills and experience in narrative filmmaking who can take these artistic skills in to an industry context. This is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic and creative practitioner to join us.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be an active drama/narrative filmmaker with specialisms in either Screenwriting or Producing (a supplementary skill in Cinematography, Editing or Sound Design would also be desirable). You will be a dynamic teacher, industry experienced and a practice led researcher in narrative/drama filmmaking. You will be industry connected, with substantial years of teaching experience in the Higher Education system. Passionate about film, you will be familiar with the skills and professional processes associated with filmmaking.
