Detail information about job Associate Director - Physical Sciences. Terms and conditions vacancy

In exceptional circumstances, it may be possible to offer a supplement to the salary range of up to £60,000 for a 5-year period. Any such supplement would be awarded on the basis of a demonstrable history of exceptional achievement and is entirely at the discretion of the University.

The University of Cambridge seeks an ambitious major gifts fundraiser with the ability to help develop long-term holistic partnerships with high-level donors to ultimately secure financial support for the School of the Physical Sciences' most critical priorities.

The University of Cambridge is a global leader in education and research - a centre of excellence for over 800 years where people, ideas and achievements continue to transform and benefit the world. It has produced more Nobel Prize winners than any other university.

The School of the Physical Sciences is one of six Schools into which the academic work of the University is organised. It covers Astronomy, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Geography, Materials Science and Metallurgy, Mathematics and Physics. The various departments are consistently ranked among the best in the world for their subjects, in teaching, research and impact.

Priorities for which the Schools seeks philanthropic support include academic posts, studentships, research programmes and extensive capital projects. These priorities relate to some of the most exciting, globally significant research and teaching activity taking place across the University. Fundraising potential is strong, with a clearly identified pool of alumni and non-alumni prospects capable of giving seven-figure gifts and above. Philanthropic gifts to the School in recent years have been transformational and include one eight-figure gift of £20m.

In autumn 2015, Cambridge launched its most ambitious fundraising campaign to date. The Dear World, Yours, Cambridge campaign for the University and Colleges looks to raise £2bn to attract the brightest minds, create the most inspiring environment for world-class research and enable Cambridge to continue to respond to the world's biggest challenges.

Contributing to the design and execution of the major gifts fundraising strategy for the Schools, you will help leverage partnerships with world class academics and leaders across the University to deliver significant philanthropic income.

Reporting to the Senior Associate Director, Physical Sciences, and working closely with the Head and Secretary, you will generate six- and seven-figure gifts from individuals, trusts and foundations, and/or corporations in the UK and internationally. You will manage a complex prospect pool of around 75-100 prospects, and will therefore work directly with some of the University's most capable donors and volunteers.

We are looking for a candidate with a proven track record in major gift fundraising and/or management of key relationships with donors. A strategic thinker, you will be capable of building strong relationships with high-value potential partners and senior academic stakeholders. You should have outstanding communication and social skills, and an ability to communicate complex concepts and ideas to variety of audiences. A creative and collaborative approach will be critical, as will be a passion for the research and educational mission of the University of Cambridge.

This role provides an excellent opportunity for someone who is entrepreneurial, passionate and innovative, has a good track record in major gift fundraising (or equivalent experience), and is looking to have a major impact on a world-renowned institution. The University of Cambridge only seeks outstanding talent to join the Development & Alumni Relations team.

This role is based in central Cambridge.
