The Department of Government is seeking to appoint an academic at the Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level in International Relations with demonstrable excellence in research and teaching. The ideal candidate will also have a strong background in political economy. An ability to connect with existing areas of strength in the Department is also an advantage.

The Role and Duties

The post-holder is expected to conduct research and teaching in International Relations at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. They will also (co-)supervise undergraduate projects, MA, and PhD dissertations, and assess students through coursework and examination as well as contribute to the successful administration and management of the Department.

You will also be expected to obtain external research funding and contribute to the department’s expansion strategy for new modules in political science.

Qualifications and Skills required

The post-holder at Lecturer level will be expected to hold a PhD in Political Science or an allied field, or be in the final stages of completion of your studies. Alternatively, the post-holder at Senior Lecturer level will be required to have already obtained a PhD in Political Science or an all field.

At both Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level you will be required to have an academic expertise in the area of International Relations; potential of excellence in research in International Relations; potential of excellence in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level; demonstrable potential to generate external funding; and demonstrable experience of a clear publication plan for submission to future Research Excellence Framework (REF) programmes.

Additional requirements at the Senior Lecturer level include experience of PhD supervision; demonstrating a significant portfolio to include a well-established track record of high quality (ABS 3*/4* level) publications in leading refereed journals; a proven track record of raising research funds and managing research projects; proven experience in managing academic programmes; staff management, leadership and motivational skills; and the ability to support the teaching and learning experience of all academic colleagues in a higher education environment.

Salary: £39,993 - £47,722 per annum (Lecturer), £50,618 - £56,951 per annum (Senior Lecturer)
