Detail information about job Stipendiary Lecturerships in Computer Science (3 posts). Terms and conditions vacancy

Hertford College proposes to appoint two or three Stipendiary Lecturers in Computer Science. The lecturerships are fixed term from 1 October 2017 – 30 September 2018 (with payment continuing through vacations). They can be held in conjunction with other similar appointments to the extent that this is compatible with the responsibilities of the lecturership.

The overall tutorial teaching load will be an average of nine hours per week (in pairs and small classes) over the three terms. We expect to appoint two or three individuals who will split this between them. We are flexible in how this split may be achieved, and applicants are welcome to specify the load that they are hoping for or happy to accept based on their particular areas of expertise.

Between them, this team must be capable of tutoring all of the relevant first-year Computer Science courses (Algorithms, Discrete Mathematics, Functional Programming, Imperative Programming, Probability) and the second-year course in Models of Computation. Details of the relevant courses may be found on the website of the Department of Computer Science: http://www.cs.ox.ac.uk/teaching/courses/.

In addition, the appointees will be expected to assist in the organisation of teaching of Computer Science at Hertford (and associated pastoral support where required), to liaise with the Department of Computer Science, and to be available to assist throughout the 2017 admissions round. Currently most relevant Hertford students are studying Computer Science and Philosophy (though we have now started to recruit students for Computer Science also); accordingly, the appointees will report to Professor Peter Millican, Gilbert Ryle Fellow and Tutor in Philosophy.

Candidates should have a good first degree and should have, or be close to completing, a doctorate in an appropriate discipline. Some teaching experience would be an advantage.

The salary for a three-hour lecturership will be in the range £6,513 - £7,325 p.a., and for a six-hour lecturership, £13,026 - £14,651 p.a., depending on qualifications and experience, and will be pensionable with USS.

The successful candidates will also be entitled to associate membership of the SCR, to free lunches in college (when teaching and during vacations), and to one or two free dinners (depending on teaching stint) per week during weeks 0–9 of term. Further particulars for the post are available on the Hertford College website: https://www.hertford.ox.ac.uk/about/vacancies. Hertford specialises in the recently-established degree in Computer Science and Philosophy, aiming to recruit four students per year.

Candidates should send a CV including relevant experience, a covering letter, an application form (available on the college website) and the names of two referees to Ms Julia Howe, Deputy Academic Administrator, Hertford College ([email protected]) by 12.00 noon on Thursday 7 September 2017.

Candidates should also arrange for their referees to write to the college by the same date. It is anticipated that interviews will be held on either Wednesday 13 September or Thursday 14 September. Potential candidates are welcome to contact Professor Peter Millican ([email protected]) for further information.

This is a college vacancy and the terms and conditions of the post are available at https://www.hertford.ox.ac.uk/about/vacancies. The University Terms and Conditions shown elsewhere on this site do not apply to this post.

Hertford College is an Equal Opportunities Employer.
