Do you have the drive to handle complex student casework, monitor compliance with student governance procedures, and provide technical advice on challenging student issues?

The Student Governance team at Birmingham City University is looking for two Senior Student Casework Officers to enhance the service delivered to students and staff in connection with cases involving student disciplinaries, fitness to practise, complaints, and academic appeals.

Here in Academic Services at Birmingham City University, we are re-setting the bar for our performance, with the aim of being recognised not only for the quality of what we do, but as a great place to work and pursue a career. Our work is fast paced, with high levels of demand all year round, as we deliver against tight deadlines and robust targets. We are looking for talented, dynamic, resilient, and enthusiastic individuals who are committed to making a difference.

We are for looking self-motivated team members who are legally qualified, and/or have significant experience in student governance matters, Higher Education disputes, or comparable work such as complaints-handling or regulatory compliance work. We need you to analyse cases, challenge evidence, weigh up competing interests, and confidently provide accurate and practical advice and recommendations.  Excellent oral and written communication skills are vital.

The appointee will need to balance the interests of the University and students, and to tackle matters that may be stressful and sensitive for those involved. This role requires a risk-based approach and attention to detail is critical. You should also recognise the importance of confidentiality and be able to exercise discretion.

You will be expected to take ownership of tasks, and help design and implement processes and methods of working to improve accuracy and efficiency, both within the team and across the wider University. You will also need to supervise more junior members of the team, and manage workloads to ensure compliance with deadlines. People and process management skills are key.

In return, we will give you access to our dedicated programme of in-house training and support, as well as great package of benefits, opportunities for development and progression, and the chance to make a real mark on our business.

If you would like to enhance our skilled team of professional administrators and advisers, please upload a CV and covering letter as part of your application for this role. You are advised, where possible, to remove personal details from your CV and covering letter including your name. For further information, please contact [email protected].
