The EPIC-Norfolk Study (European Prospective Investigation of Cancer) within the DPHPC (one of Europe's leading academic departments of population health sciences) is a well-established interdisciplinary group currently comprising ~15 staff and students.

The Study investigates the links between diet, lifestyle, disease and healthy ageing and covers a broad range of health areas and behaviours: cognition, eye health, physical functioning and diet.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Data Co-ordinator who will work as part of the Bio-informatics team and will play a crucial role in creating and maintaining technical structures to support the EPIC-Norfolk Study phases in addition to overall research aims.

Your main duties would include relational database management using Oracle programming (including statistical) using a variety of programming languages such as Perl, R, Stata and SAS. You would be required to design and create data capture forms in Base (part of LibreOffice) and test and maintain these, in addition to training staff to use the forms. Data management, querying, validation and data cleaning will be required regularly to support the EPIC-Norfolk Study team.

In addition you will maintain the EPIC-Norfolk website and provide maintenance support for FETA software (FFQ EPIC Tool for Analysis) and Data-Dictionary (a tool for researchers to use when requesting data.)

This is a varied role working within a well-established and broad research Study. The successful applicant will be working on a Linux workstation and must have a working knowledge of structured query language (SQL), Oracle 'SQL Plus', HTML, LaTeX (for document creation) and the data management elements of statistical packages such as 'R' and Stata. You will be confident in using open source software that is in active development and may lack documentation.

An ability to work flexibility and to communicate with people with a variety of skill-sets is essential. You must be able to plan your own time and take a proactive approach to keeping up with developments in bioinformatics and to learn new methods and programming languages is required.

A numerate/scientific or computing degree or equivalent is desirable as well as experience of data management in a large scale study.
