Purpose and Main Duties Since Dr George Birkbeck created the London Mechanics’ Institution in 1823 the organisation that is now Birkbeck, University of London, has been the gateway for ambitious people to study in the evening. In so doing they change their own lives – and make an immediate impact on business, the economy and our entire society. As we approach our 200th anniversary in 2023, we plan to invest £150 million in widening our intake yet further and raising our standards yet higher. We anticipate that £50 million will come from philanthropists such as alumni, friends, corporate partners and charitable trusts and foundations as part of an ambitious fundraising campaign. This new post is an opportunity to join a successful and expanding Development and Alumni department at a particularly exciting time for Birkbeck. The Development Research Officer will have significant experience of prospect research; identifying capacity, inclination and networks across individuals, corporates, trusts and foundations. This role will lead on developing and managing a programme of activities to maximise the number of fundraising leads on our database. Further Information
Salary: Grade 7 of the College's London Pay Scale which is £36,548 rising to £41,772 per annum. This post is full time, 35 hours per week (1.0 FTE) and open-ended. The salary quoted above is on the College's London Pay Scale and includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the Greater London area. The initial salary will be dependent on the skills and experience of the successful applicant. The appointment is subject to a probationary period of 6 months.
