Cork Institute of Technology, which incorporates the CIT Crawford College of Art and Design, CIT Cork School of Music, and the National Maritime College of Ireland, invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the position of Senior Researcher/Postdoc - eHealth/Connected Health/Industrial Internet of Things at CIT.

INFINITE is an Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC) approved Industrial Internet of Things testbed that encompasses all the significant technologies, domains and platforms for Industrial IoT environments across cloud, security, mobile, networks, sensors and analytics. The INFINITE testbed enables innovation and collaboration between industry partners who wish to create new solutions and business models in the Industrial IoT space, and especially in the e-Health space. 

The group is now looking for an experienced researcher with a general background in computer science, connected health and Internet of Things. We are looking for an individual who is capable of driving specific connected health/IoT and related projects with end users and industry partners.

Reporting to the Principal Investigator Prof. Paul Walsh, the successful applicant will study connected health/security for the Internet of Things in conjunction with CIT industry partners and drive an Industrial Internet of Things Security research project based on industry needs. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to drive IoT and eHealth research within CIT.

Essential Criteria:

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • a PhD in Computer Science, informatics, IoT or related disciplines;
  • a strong background in applied research in computer science, informatics, connected health or related disciplines, ideally with high impact publications;
  • 3 years+ experience in postdoc research.
  • a demonstrated understanding of systems design, management and implementation in the Industrial Internet of Things space;
  • strong skills in writing research papers, proposals and technical reports/deliverables;
  • proven ability to work well, both in a team environment and on his/her own initiative to solve technical, logistical and system integration problems;
  • proven ability to manage and deliver on project deadlines;
  • fluent spoken and written English;
  • a practical, assertive and achievement orientated attitude. Good self-management and communication skills for interaction with project partners are essential.
  • an ability to work flexible hours as required and be adaptable to changing working practices.

Desirable Criteria:

  • experience in attracting research funding;
  • research leadership experience;
  • experience with network technology.

Salary: €40,715 to €50,487 per annum (based on experience).
