The MRC Cancer Unit (MRC CU) is recruiting a full-time Goods-In Clerk/Laboratory Porter, whose role will involve working as a laboratory porter (50% of time) in the Hutchison/MRC Research Centre (HMRC). The remaining time will be spent managing the centre stores stock (20%) and providing a Goods-in service in support of the MRC Cancer Unit and Cambridge University Department of Oncology and would be based within the adjacent Wellcome Trust/MRC Building (30%). 

This is an interesting and diverse role, which includes the distribution of incoming and outgoing goods, liquid nitrogen, gas cylinders, dry ice, waste management and general custodial duties. Goods-in support will involve accepting deliveries, checking their contents and receipting of goods using the University financial system (CUFS). The post holder will be working as part of a team of three including staff managing similar roles in support of University groups based within the Wellcome Trust/MRC Building. The role holder will also be required to organise returns, deal with discrepancies and be responsible for maintaining central supplies of certain items used for research purposes.

Good interpersonal skills (written and oral) and effective team working are essential, as is an organised and methodical approach. Previous experience of working in a similar environment is advantageous in this physically demanding role. Strong attention to detail and numeracy are required as is a sound knowledge of using Word, Excel and Outlook.
