The Department of Life Sciences was the top ranked university department in the UK for research intensity in Biological Sciences in REF2014 (Times Higher Education), scoring 100% on our environment.

Applications are invited for a Research Technician to work in the laboratory of Professor Steve Matthews, in the Department of Life Sciences at Imperial College London’s South Kensington Campus. The post holder will support the establishment, organisation, management and maintenance of the laboratory and its equipment. You will also contribute to the ongoing research on the structural and functional investigation of bacterial amyloids.

You will have a minimum of 2 A-Levels in relevant subjects or equivalent vocational qualification, plus work experience, in a relevant technical or scientific role.  You must also have extensive experience of wet laboratory, preferentially in a biochemistry or molecular biology laboratory, experience in cell culturing (bacteria, yeast), molecular cloning techniques, biochemistry and protein purification are essential. You must be computer literate and have experience of using Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills and attention to detail are essential. You must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to prioritise own work in response to deadlines with minimal supervision. You will have a flexible approach to working hours according to requirements of technical procedures, and the ability to work as part of a team as well as independently. Ability to show initiative and take responsibility of your workload with limited supervision is also essential.

This is a fixed-term, full-time post available for 1 year with the possibility for extension subject to funding. The post is funded by the Wellcome Trust and is available for immediate start.
