Applications are invited for the role of Senior Research Associate in Health Economics in the newly established Improvement Research Institute.

Funded by the Health Foundation, the Improvement Research Institute has a remit to advance research into how to improve quality and safety of patient care. Through collaborative partnerships across the UK and internationally, the Institute's mission is to create an enabling infrastructure for the NHS to become the world's largest producer of systematic learning about how to improve healthcare, and to establish improvement research as a leading academic field.

The purpose of the role is to advance, support and maintain the University's national and international reputation for excellence in health economics research aligned to the improvement research institute goals. The Senior Research Associate will work across the University and with NHS organisations, patient and public stakeholders, and charitable organisations to help support the delivery of the institute's mission to strengthen the evidence-base for improvement and build capacity in research methods. They will have full operational responsibility for major programmes of applied research in healthcare, leading economic evaluations of healthcare interventions, particularly as they apply to health service organisation and delivery. The role-holder will provide expert advice on study design, including selection of outcomes and process measures, and measurement of resources and costs. The Senior Research Associate will line manage a team of research staff.

The post-holder must have a PhD and be able to demonstrate specialist knowledge and research skills in health economics. They will have strengths in the economic evaluation of healthcare interventions, and be able to develop research objectives, projects and proposals. They should have experience of leading large, complex research programmes and delivering them on time, to budget and to an excellent standard of scholarship.

Appoint to Senior Research Associate is subject to approval by the Faculty Board of Clinical Medicine. 

Funds are available until 31 March 2022. The post holder will be based at the Improvement research institute (holding name), Cambridge Biomedical Campus, Clifford Allbutt Building, Bay 13, Cambridge CB2 OAH  (approx 2 miles south of city centre).

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 March 2022 in the first instance.
