Detail information about job Head of Health and Safety. Terms and conditions vacancy

Department

We are looking for someone who has already achieved great things in health and safety and is ambitious to take their career to the next level. It is a great opportunity to be part of a forward-looking, inventive, modern university in a great, global city.

If you are ambitious, with determination to succeed, you will be in your element here, cultivating a health and safety culture every bit as positive as we are.

Role

We have already set in place a robust university-wide health and safety strategy. You will lead the approach to continue the transformation of the way we work and take health and safety to the next level. It is a highly visible, hugely influential, and collaborative role. Your work will touch each academic department and every corner of our world-class campus – from our sports fields and science labs to our restaurants and halls of residence.

You will ensure our 4,500 staff and 36,000 students across six faculties and 12 research centres can work and study safely. You will be helping them to meet personal goals and make professional discoveries. You will soon find that there is no such thing as a typical day. Things are always moving forward here – it is in our DNA. That is what makes a job like this so satisfying.

Ideal Candidate

There are different aspects to the role, and the person who needs to fill it.

You need to be:

Able to look at things from both a practical and a theoretical perspective and be willing to engage at all levels, from the operational to the strategic. Someone who can roll their sleeves up and get involved with the day-to-day detail on the ground.

A reliable expert who knows their subject inside-out – all legislation, every policy, every procedure.

Someone who can inspire, lead and motivate others. An excellent communicator both in writing and verbally. Someone who is confident, unafraid to challenge authority, confident in their knowledge and understanding of legislation and codes of practice.

An individual who can engage with a hugely diverse range of stakeholders to ensure our health and safety culture supports our overall ambitions.

NEBOSH qualified with CMIOSH membership (or equivalent) you will bring us an enviable track record, including successes in:

  • Improving organisational safety management systems and assurance frameworks.
  • Designing and implementing health and safety training programmes.
  • Managing and working collaboratively on large multi-site project.

You will be able to demonstrate the leadership and management skills to set priorities and to lead, organise, coach, and motivate your team, and to keep a portfolio of projects moving forward simultaneously. You will show us that you are an effective, credible communicator: someone with a flair for imparting knowledge, equally at home producing sharp, analytical reports or influencing senior decision-makers.

How to Apply:

This is an exciting and significant role, so naturally you will have questions, about our standing, our strategy, the role itself, and the benefits on offer.

The closing date for applications for this role is 18th September 2017. Interviews are provisionally scheduled for the 17th October 2017.
