Detail information about job SCREDS Clinical Lectureships. Terms and conditions vacancy

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for up to five Clinical Lecturer posts to be held in the University of Edinburgh’s College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine. Each post is designed to combine Specialist Training in the successful candidate’s chosen speciality with enhanced academic and research opportunities which will involve a balance of research, teaching, and clinical duties. This will allow each successful applicant to establish a successful research foundation in their chosen area.

Candidates must have demonstrated a commitment to a research career through the completion of an initial period of substantive research training, leading to a PhD or MD. It is anticipated successful candidates will have a track record in basic, translational, or clinical research. To take up the post, applicants must hold a National Training Number in their specialty, in addition to a PhD or MD.

These posts provide outstanding opportunities for combining research and clinical training. The University of Edinburgh has an internationally renowned group of clinical and scientific researchers. The College of Medicine & Veterinary Medicine has five major research Institutes, each with more than 500 staff and postgraduates. Each Institute contains 3-5 interrelated Centres led by internationally renowned scientists. The excellence of the University’s Centres is evidenced by prestigious external funding awards including: 4 Medical Research Council (MRC) Centres, 2 British Heart Foundation (BHF) Centres, a Cancer Research UK (CRUK) Centre, an Asthma UK Centre (the Asthma UK Centre for Applied Research), a BBSRC Strategically funded institute (The Roslin Institute), an MRC University Unit (Human Genetics Unit), and a World Health Organisation (WHO) Collaborating Centre on Population Health Research and Training.

SCREDS Lectureships are not attached to specific specialties. All appointments to these posts will be incorporated into the appropriate GMC approved speciality training programme. Successful applicants will be granted Honorary Specialty Registrar status by NHS Lothian, subject to the availability of a post in the programme. Clinical training, with some on call commitment, will be provided through the appropriate training programme.

Please note that only candidates with an NTN may be appointed to these posts. Applicants without an NTN must have obtained one prior to interview so that they can take up the post in August 2018.

These posts are available on a fixed-term to CCT date plus 6 months. The working pattern is 40 hours per week.

Prospective candidates wishing to discuss the appointment or to visit should, in the first instance, contact Professor Moira Whyte ([email protected]).

We welcome applications from everyone irrespective of gender or ethnic group.
