The role and its responsibilities

We have an exciting opportunity to work closely with administrative and academic colleagues as a proactive member of the Anthropology & Sociology, Politics and Arts Departments administrative team.  The successful candidate will be responsible for providing effective and responsive academic-facing administrative support for the department’s activities, in areas such as coordination of exam marking, planning teaching, timetabling, financial management, and assisting with staff recruitment.  You will liaise with colleagues in professional services across SOAS, reporting to the Department Manager.

Skills and experience

You will have previous experience of office administration, ideally within a Higher Education context, together with the ability to advise and influence both academic and administrative colleagues alike.  Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and the ability to build strong working relationships with people at all levels and across SOAS, is essential.  You will be highly organised, self-motivated and able to identify and implement creative improvements to procedures and systems.  You will also ideally have experience of servicing academic committees, including writing minutes and reports, as well as experience of quality assurance processes in Higher Education.
