Fixed-term with a start date of 1 October 2017 and an end date of 31 March 2018.

A research position is available in titanium powder solid state process modelling. The position is part of a new Innovate UK funded Project: FASTforge as part of the recent high Value Manufacturing UK call. The aim of the position is to support research activities that lead to a successful project and create strong links with industry to aid research into the manufacture of titanium forged components.  The successful candidate will work in a world leading research group in titanium processing and liaise with a UK aerospace supply chain.

The Research Associate will be expected to work as part of a coordinated team and collaborate on a day to day basis with supervisor - Dr Martin Jackson. The successful candidate should have experience in solid state powder processing, field assisted sintering technologies, finite element modelling, including packages such as DEFORM or similar packages. It is also important that they have a strong knowledge of microstructure property relations in titanium alloys.

The successful candidate should have completed, or be about to complete, a PhD in metals processing or a related discipline with a background in process metallurgy and finite element modelling. The Research Associate will be expected to prepare data, write reports and papers, and present their research at UK meetings and major international conferences. They will have complimentary expertise with similar skill sets to cover other solid state processing processes and associated characterisation.
