Detail information about job Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Characterisation of Radiation Damage. Terms and conditions vacancy

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to conduct experimental research in characterisation of radiation damage in materials for fusion and/or fission power applications. The research will be performed within a large, multi-faceted group within Oxford Materials, and in collaboration with external bodies such as the UK Atomic Energy Authority. The research will be centred around characterisation of radiation defect structures arising from irradiation by heavy ions, protons and neutrons of structural nuclear materials.

The post is fixed-term for up to 2 years.

The post is funded via an EPSRC Platform Grant, the purpose of which is to maintain and build the strength of the group, and to underpin career development of early-career researchers; as such, we expect that the successful applicant will develop their own research themes and be in a position to make a strong application for a personal Research Fellowship during the timeframe of this appointment.

You will hold a relevant PhD/DPhil in materials science or a related field and possess specialist knowledge, experience and skills related to the field of characterisation of radiation damage in nuclear materials, by electron microscopy and/or related techniques.

The closing date for applications is 12 noon on Thursday 28 September 2017.

The Department of Materials has been awarded departmental Bronze Athena SWAN status in recognition of its efforts to introduce organisational and cultural practices that promote gender equality and create a better working environment for both men and women.  Job applications are particularly welcome from women and black and ethnic minority candidates, who are under-represented in research posts in the Department.

Please note that the University of Oxford's retirement policy is changing. With effect from October 1 2017, all employees at Grade 8 and above will have a retirement age of 68, and all employees at Grades 6 and 7 will no longer have a set retirement age.
