We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated, enthusiastic, experienced and professional individual to the position of Public Engagement and Communications Officer within the Department of Paediatrics. You will be responsible for developing and implementing a strategy for strengthening information-sharing across the department, and raising awareness of the aims and achievements of the department both internally and externally, working closely with colleagues across the university ensuring a coordinated approach.

This is a part-time post, 0.6 FTE (22.5 hours per week) the working pattern is flexible.

This post is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic communications or PR professional to shape the Department’s information sharing and public engagement strategy, transforming communication and outreach across our teaching and research staff, students, and the wider public.

The post holder will forge relationships with researchers, clinicians, and educators to raise awareness of the Department’s aims and achievements both internally and externally. Covering the full range of communications media including online web content, social media, and written publications, the Communications and Public Engagement Officer will be expected to develop strategies to engage with the public to increase involvement, share knowledge, and widen accessibility, and to promote outreach partnerships with local schools and community organisations.

You will be educated to degree level or equivalent, preferably in a biomedical science subject, with extensive previous experience in a communications or public engagement role; you will have the ability to develop and implement communications strategies and significant experience of digital media. You will be able to evaluate methods of communication to assess their effectiveness, be highly self-motivated, and have a proven track-record of working with people at all levels of seniority to manage and deliver long-term projects successfully.
