Are you passionate about providing first class customer service? Are you experienced in reception and clerical work looking to develop and broaden your skills in a new setting?
As the Receptionist within the SPS your primary focus will be to act as the first point of contact for students, visitors and staff to SPS both face-to-face and over the telephone.
The position will be expected to gain a cross section of working knowledge of all student administration sectors, with the aim of providing a full service provision during peak periods and to cover annual leave and sickness.
You will be able to demonstrate a high level of customer service skills and be able to work under pressure and to prioritise work accordingly. A friendly, approachable manner is essential in this role and the post holder is expected to maintain a calm, courteous and professional demeanour at all times and be well presented.
As a Receptionist you will:
- Deal with enquiries in a professional manner, re-direct enquires to appropriate SPS staff and University departments and take and pass on messages as required.
- To greet, assist and/or direct students, visitors and the general public.
- To undertake general administrative duties including dealing with incoming and outgoing student work, booking rooms, electronic filing.
To succeed in this role you will:
- Be educated to GCSE level in both English and Maths at Grade C or above or the equivalent with a CLAIT/ECDL or the equivalent IT qualification.
- Have experience of working in a busy and demanding front facing customer service environment.
- Have experience as working as part of a team and the ability to use initiative to resolve unexpected issues.
The School of Physical Sciences (SPS) is part of the Faculty of Sciences, within the University. SPS is a dynamic department achieving national and international excellence in both teaching and research. The research effort is led by four groups, Applied Optics, Astrophysics and Planetary Science, Forensic Science, and Functional Materials. SPS has also developed a very active outreach programme within schools and professional institutions at the local and national level.
