Detail information about job Research Associate/Senior Research Associate in Organic Chemistry. Terms and conditions vacancy

A Research Associate position is available in the group of Professor Jonathan Clayden for an outstanding and ambitious chemist with research experience in organic chemistry. Funded by the EPSRC, as part of a major £6M investment in the topical and fst-moving field of Molecular Robotics, the successful applicant will undertake research in the application of synthetic organic chemistry to molecules with biomimetic function. The three-year project will involve the development of new dynamic foldamers that have the ability to exhibit controllable properties in a membrane environment, allowing them to function as components of molecular robotic systems that mimic biomolecules such as trans-membrane receptors and ion channels. The project will involve close collaboration with co-workers in the fields of analytical and membrane chemistry in Bristol and in other groups involved in the research programme in Manchester and Cambridge.

You should have, or be working towards, a PhD (or equivalent qualification) in organic chemistry. Experience of the development of synthetic methods and in the characterisation of complex molecules by NMR spectroscopy is essential. You should be capable of working under your own initiative and will be expected to interact productively with other members of the research group working on related projects, so excellent communication and organisational skills are also required.
