The salary will be paid at Grade 5(£28,098 - £32,548) or Grade 6*(£33,518 - £39,992) per annum, dependent on qualifications, plus £2,923 London Weighting Allowance per annum

*Please note that this is a PhD level role but candidates who have submitted their thesis and are awaiting award of their PhDs will be considered. Should the successful candidate be awaiting the award of their PhD, the appointment will be made at Grade 5, spinal point 30 with the title of Research Assistant until confirmation of the award of the PhD has been received. Upon confirmation of the award of the PhD, the job title will become Research Associate and the salary will increase to Grade 6, spine point 31.

Candidates without a PhD will be appointed at Grade 5.

This post will be fixed term contract for 12 months.

Preterm birth increases the risk of brain damage that leads to disorders such as cerebral palsy or disrupted cognitive function. The project will test an anti-inflammatory drug, Montelukast, to target inflammation in the blood and subsequent inflammation within the brain, with the aim of preventing early-life brain damage. We will use a combined behavioural analysis, MRI and 3D-histological approach to assess injury that will determine the sensitivity and specificity of MRI for functionally relevant injury. 

The post holder will play a leading role in this project, and will be required to acquire and analyse ex vivo diffusion MRI data, and associate MRI characteristics with 3D-histological data using advanced statistics and machine learning algorithms. They will also be required to prepare data for publication and future grant applications.

The selection process will include a panel interview.
