Detail information about job Computer Teaching Support Officer. Terms and conditions vacancy

We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive IT technician to support computer teaching on the Biological Sciences degree course. We are building a dedicated IT suite situated in the Department of Plant Sciences and supported by the Department of Zoology infrastructure and wish to appoint an experienced support officer to ensure that the IT suite provides an optimal learning environment for all that use the facility.

The IT suite comprises of 60 thin-client workstations that connect to a range of teaching servers including Microsoft's Remote Desktop Session Hosts. A wide range of software is installed on the servers, including general office productivity software, genome analysis packages, open-source statistical applications and phylogenetic programs.

Biological sciences is a single honours degree course taught jointly by the Departments of Plant Sciences and Zoology. The course combines traditional, underpinning topics such as animal and plant systematics and relationships, with modern developments and techniques in all spheres of biology, from the molecular and cellular to the whole organismal and ecological. We pride ourselves on the fact that very few mainstream topics of biology in its widest sense are completely unavailable to our undergraduates and all the major research areas in the Departments of Plant Sciences and Zoology contribute to the Biological Sciences course.

The post will be situated in the Department of Plant Sciences, South Parks Road, Oxford.

This post is full-time and fixed-term for 5 years in the first instance.
