Grade 6, PT, 0.3
Duration: 12 months fixed term
Starting date: 1 October 2017 or soon after
The School of Social Policy and the Institute for Research into Superdiversity at the University of Birmingham are seeking to recruit a Research Assistant to work with Dr. Nando Sigona (PI) and Dr Laurence Lessard Phillips (CI) on the ESRC-funded project EU families and Eurochildren in Brexiting Britain (www.eurochildren.info). The project is part of The UK in a changing Europe initiative.
The role includes contribution to data collection and analysis of in-depth qualitative interviews and focus groups with EU nationals and their children in the UK, collaboration with the PI and the research team on project outputs and the delivery of impact activities.
The Research Assistant will hold at least a Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in sociology, human geography, migration studies, anthropology, social policy or cognate discipline. Given the fractional nature of the project, it is suitable for a person near completion of their PhD programme.
You should have experience of conducting academic research on related topics and have experience of conducting qualitative research. The ability to write and edit documents in English with a high degree of accuracy and precision is essential, as is the ability to organise and prioritise own work and research deliverables within a project timetable, availability to travel in the UK to carry out fieldwork, and knowledge and experience of Nvivo software. Fluency in one or more EU languages, proven experience in carrying out research with EU migrants and experience with drafting outputs for non-academic audiences are highly desirable.
This is a part time (0.3FTE), 1 year fixed term post to start on the 1st October or soon after.
