(A Readership may be available for a suitable candidate)

Liverpool School of Art and Design seeks a highly motivated individual with a broad range of expertise and experience in the practical and theoretical aspects of Fashion. The School forms part of LJMU's Faculty of Arts, Professional and Social Studies and offers undergraduate programmes in Fashion, Fine Art, Architecture, Graphic Design & Illustration and History of Art & Museum Studies, together with a suite of postgraduate courses. The School prides itself on having developed a warm and friendly environment with a strong commitment to nurturing and supporting creativity, whilst offering first-class student support and excellent learning resources.

Fashion (Design & Communication) at Liverpool John Moores University is an established area of study and research, with classes in dress and textiles introduced as early as 1936. In recent years the course has established a firm reputation for producing innovative and creative designers who have secured a broad range of jobs within the fashion sector.

The city of Liverpool is a vibrant place for students to study and supports the course as a hub for research and live projects. Undergraduate students select between 2 pathways: The Design Pathway that challenges the boundaries of design and manufacture to create forward thinking and innovative design outcomes, and the Communication Pathway that focuses on visual and creative skills across a broad range of topics from branding and trend prediction to events and public relations. The course pushes the boundaries of contemporary design whilst underpinning its philosophy with the traditional skills of drawing and illustration, garment construction and photography. High profile collaborations and competitions are an intrinsic part of the programme alongside a wide range of placements within the fashion sector. In addition to this, there is a strong focus on national and international live projects and competitions to enable students to participate and develop a deeper knowledge of industry practice.

The programme is known for excellent studio practice and diversity and this is supported with specialist workshop delivery to ensure students work towards industry standard outputs. Students have on-going dialogue with tutors within a robust and well-considered timetable to ensure consistency in feedback and productivity. The course prides itself on creating independent and creative thinkers who go on to make significant impact within the creative industries at a local, national and international level.

This area is developing its strategic priorities in research, public engagement and enterprise activity, and there is an opportunity for a research active academic to build on the current research profile of the programme team. Reporting to the Director of Liverpool School of Art & Design, you will have responsibility for the operational leadership of the programmes and the line-management of the staff that work within the team. You will lead the enhancement of the current portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, as well as inspiring new developments in programmes, international recruitment, collaborative partners and enterprise and research activity.

Informal enquiries may be made to Caroline Wilkinson, Director of the Liverpool School of Art and Design: 0151 904 1188 ([email protected]).

Closing Date: 27 September 2017

LJMU is committed to achieving equality of opportunity.
