The role of Associate Professor of Conservation and Planning provides strategic leadership in world-class research and teaching for the Discipline of Geography and Spatial Sciences and the School. The Associate Professor will undertake high-quality, collaborative research of international standing and impact; undertake scholarly undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and provide leadership in key areas of learning and teaching; and collaborate with external partners to further University contributions in conservation and planning.

Specifically, the Associate Professor of Conservation and Planning is responsible for:

  • Making a substantial and sustained contribution to the University in achieving its strategic objectives and fulfilling its operational responsibilities.
  • Undertaking high-quality research of international standing, secure external competitive and other funding, publish research findings and successfully supervise research higher degree students to completion, in order to meet and regularly exceed the University’s research performance expectations for Level C/D.
  • Undertake scholarly undergraduate and postgraduate coursework teaching of an exemplary quality and provide leadership in key areas of learning and teaching in the Discipline.
  • Provide academic leadership, particularly in building teams and fostering outstanding research and learning and teaching.
  • Provide leadership in the development and maintenance of productive and effective links inside the University and locally, nationally and internationally with the discipline, relevant interdisciplinary domains, profession, industry and/or wider community. 

You will be employed on a ongoing full time  basis. 

To be considered, you will have:

  • A PhD or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • A substantial record in, and continuing commitment to, research that has achieved international recognition and made innovative, and sustained contributions to the field of Conservation and Planning, demonstrated by a very strong record of high-quality publications, presentations at conferences and success in securing external competitive and other funding.
  • A substantial record of successful research higher degree student supervision and completions.
  • Extensive experience and demonstrated achievement and leadership in University-level teaching and learning.
  • Proven ability as an academic leader, with a record in team building and creating effective working relationships, and capacity to foster excellence in research and teaching.
  • A demonstrated capacity to build and maintain effective and productive links locally, nationally and internationally with the profession and wider community. 

Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level C/D and will have a total remuneration package of up to $172,089 comprising a base salary range of $112,184 to $147,085 plus 17% superannuation.
