Detail information about job Tissue Co-ordinator. Terms and conditions vacancy

We are seeking a highly motivated Tissue Co-ordinator to collect tissue as part of work on several exciting projects investigating the pathogenesis of osteoarthritis. This post will provide a critical service, undertaking the collection and analysis of blood and joint tissues from individuals with osteoarthritis and is funded by Arthritis Research UK.

Your duties will be both laboratory and field based. You will be expected to undertake identification and seeking written informed consent from hospital patients, collection and processing of tissue and blood samples while following strict ethical guidelines regarding patient confidentiality and anonymisation of samples. You will liaise closely with nurses, clinicians, surgeons, theatre staff and the biobanking team to ensure all tissue requirements are met. You will also liaise with the surgical team to supervise tissue collection from the anatomy department and occasionally other hospital sites (this may require working out of hours). You will keep meticulous records in databases and prepare paperwork for ethics submissions and progress reports.

You will hold a degree in relevant scientific or biomedical subject or equivalent vocational qualification and have previous experience of working in a clinical/research laboratory as well as strong computing skills and experience of spreadsheets and databases. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to organise and prioritise work with minimal supervision to meet deadlines. You will also be expected to take training in human tissues processing and in phlebotomy as necessary. Practical experience in histopathology and/or haematology and a working knowledge of Good Clinical Practice and the Human Tissue Act would be an advantage.

This is a full-time fixed-term appointment until 31 December 2018 with a strong possibility of extension.

You will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on Wednesday 20 September 2017.
