Applications are invited for an enthusiastic and motivated Post-Doctoral Research Associate/Research Assistant to work in the laboratory of Dr Simon Bamforth at the Newcastle University Cardiovascular Research Centre, based in the Institute of Genetic Medicine, to investigate the transcriptional regulatory mechanisms that control cardiovascular development. The project will explore epigenetic and gene regulatory networks responsible for modulating the morphogenesis of the aortic arch arteries.

You will have a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a science subject – preferably molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry or genetics and you will have, or will soon be awarded, a PhD in a genetic, molecular and/or cell biology-related field. You must have extensive experience in molecular biology techniques including chromatin immunoprecipitation assays, and gene expression analysis by quantitative real-time RT-PCR and in situ hybridisation. The applicant will also be familiar with next generation sequencing technology (e.g. ChIPseq, RNAseq), flow cytometry, cell culture techniques, and using transgenic models of development.

Key required personal skills include a high degree of organisation, ability to plan and interpret complex experimental studies, excellent communication skills and proven ability to write for publication.

The post is tenable for 6 months in the first instance.
