Leading biomedical engineering among UK Universities, the Department of Bioengineering at Imperial College London has consistently been awarded exceptional research ratings, including in the 2014 REF assessment, in which 95% of the Department’s returned research was judged world-leading and internationally excellent. You can find out more about our staff benefits, including generous annual leave entitlements and our excellent professional development opportunities at http://www.imperial.ac.uk/job-applicants/staff-benefits/.
The Department of Bioengineering is looking to recruit an outstanding and highly motivated Research Assistant/Associate to work on the automatic identification of mathematical models of biomolecular networks in living cells (mainly bacteria such as E. coli and fungi such as yeast S. cerevisiae), and the mathematical/computational modelling, analysis, and design of deterministic and stochastic biomolecular controllers in such living cells.
This position will contribute to the "CoSy-BIO" project, which is funded by the European Research Council (ERC) H2020-FETOPEN research programme and based within the Department of Bioengineering and in collaboration with colleagues in the Faculty of Medicine at Imperial and at the Universities of Edinburgh, Bristol and Naples, Oxford University, ETH, INRIA.
We seek a highly motivated individual to fill this post, in possession of a PhD or equivalent demonstrating expertise in the analysis of deterministic and/or stochastic dynamical systems. The ideal candidate will have a background in control engineering/biophysics/mathematics, previous experience with system identification of biological systems, including gene regulatory networks and biochemical reaction network in living cells (e.g. bacteria such as E. coli) and/or biomolecular feedback analysis and design. Experience with modelling, analysis and design of synthetic biology systems is desirable. The ideal candidate would demonstrate ability to investigate such biological systems both analytically and through numerical methods and/or simulation, and would previously have developed computational tools for the use of collaborators.
This post, full-time and fixed-term for 27.5 months, is available from October 2017.
*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £32,380 - £34,040 per annum.
