Living Design is an AHRC funded project that aims to develop effective ways of using design to implement the principles of sustainability in local maker enterprises (

The project is led by Professor Martyn Evans of Manchester School of Art at Manchester Metropolitan University and Professor Stuart Walker of Imagination Lancaster at Lancaster University. The research team includes a research assistant based in Lancaster University and provides the successful candidate with an opportunity to engage with a cutting-edge research agenda that has the potential to ensure economically viable futures for a range of crafts in ways that are culturally relevant and environmentally responsible.

Role

You will employ a range of design-led research approaches to support the implementation of design for sustainability in local maker enterprises (small-scale manufacturing in furniture, lighting, homewares, etc.) in Cumbria.

Ideal Candidate

Educated to doctoral level, you will possess a broad range of design and design research skills that can be employed to engage with a range of specialists makers in the region.

With a background in design, the ideal candidate will be capable of using their own initiative to develop networks with stakeholders primarily in Cumbria.

You will have experience of authoring and co-authoring academic research outputs and disseminating research findings to a range of audiences. Strong visualisation and graphic skills would be an advantage but we are interested in candidates that have a broad range of design research skills and experiences. We are looking for an energetic, dynamic, self-directed and committed individual with a genuine interest in the role of design in sustainability.
