Contract length: Fixed Term for 42 months
Based at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust
UHCW NHS Trust is committed to providing the best care for its patients. As part of this commitment, we have an active programme of research within reproductive health.
Partners with Tommy’s
The Tommy's charity exists to save babies' lives, funding research into the causes and prevention of pregnancy complications that lead to miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth. Tommy's also provide pregnancy health information for parents-to-be. We are a partner in Europe's largest research centre dedicated to preventing recurrent miscarriage. The Tommy's National Early Miscarriage Centre comprises of three centres based here in Coventry known as Tommy's@UHCW, Birmingham Women's Hospital and Imperial in London. Tommy's@UHCW is led by Professor Quenby and her research is on the role the endometrium (the lining of the womb) in recurrent miscarriage.
Tommy's also fund research in 3 other centres of excellence: The Tommy's Maternal and Fetal Research Centre in St Thomas's London, The Tommy's Maternal and Fetal Research Centre in Edinburgh and The Tommy's Maternal and Fetal Research Centre in Manchester.
Together, the Tommy’s centres wish to set up a Reproductive Health Biobank to augment and enhance the six existing biobanks at the Tommy's funded centres, to provide added value for research. The biobank will be unique in combining expertise from these centres, four of the largest reproductive health research groups in the UK, into a single functional unit of international significance. The samples comprise of tissues obtained before pregnancy, at the time of miscarriage or during complex pregnancies, as well as in normal pregnancy. Clinical data will be linked to the samples using advanced soft-ware technology. This linked biobank will allow samples from each site to be characterised and tracked, and make them more accessible to the wider research community.
