The School of Advanced Study is seeking a Project Researcher: The Ministry of Information’s use of graphic art 1939-46 to join the Institute of English Studies.

The School of Advanced Study, University of London, is a unique institution in UK higher education. Comprising a set of postgraduate institutes and a variety of central academic initiatives, it is the UK’s national and international centre for the support, promotion and facilitation of research in the humanities, broadly defined.

Institute of English Studies

The Institute of English Studies (IES), founded in 1999, exists to facilitate advanced study and research in English studies within the University of London and in the wider academic community, national and international. It’s Centre for Manuscript and Print Studies covers such fields of study as palaeography, history of printing, manuscript and print relations, history of publishing and the book trade, textual criticism and theory and the electronic book.

The Role 

The Project Researcher will play a pivotal role in the Institute’s research initiatives on the Ministry of Information’s use of graphic art. You will actively undertake research through various forms to develop case studies and contribute to the project’s website.

To succeed in this role, you must have experience of research in the history of graphic art at an advanced level coupled with experience using research archives. You will be expected to demonstrate well-developed academic writing and editing skills. It is essential that you have the ability to work independently as well as collaborate with colleagues across the Institute and University.
