We are seeking an enthusiastic, energetic technician to support a high quality research and teaching programme across our petrology and thin sections facilities. The appointee will undertake the preparation and provision of petrographic thin section services including slide and mount preparations. Additionally, they will also be responsible for the management of the School's microscopy assets as well as assisting in the management and maintenance of the School's collection of fossils and rocks.
The technician will provide logistical and technical support, advice and training in the use of laboratory equipment and facilities to staff and students within the School of Geography, Environment and Earth Sciences.
The appointee will work as part of a larger technical team, and is expected to manage his/her own workload independently, whilst supporting other technical staff in daily tasks or specific projects, especially during peak periods or staff absences.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a Bachelor degree and/or proven work experience in a complimentary field with an understanding of appropriate current Health and Safety requirements.
