The Role and opportunity
AgResearch Farms and Facilities group is looking for a passionate and motivated Senior Animal Technician to join the Animal Facilities Team at the Grasslands Campus in Palmerston North.
Reporting to the Animal Facilities Manager, you will be the Senior Technician within a small team providing facility preparation, animal husbandry and services to various research projects. You will be working alongside a number of technicians and researchers planning the research projects, co-ordinating resources and equipment, collecting data and samples.
What you will be doing
The Senior Technician will be responsible for providing timely and cost effective animal support services to science groups at Grasslands Campus and will take a leading role within the Animal Facilities team to support the Animal Facilities Manager.
This role requires someone who has the work experience to demonstrate a high level of expertise to perform technical and animal husbandry duties, including planning, sampling, data collection and recording. The work involves collaborating with the science teams to successfully conduct their science trials while maintaining high standards of animal welfare, legislative and regulatory compliance.

- On occasions availability for work after-hours and during the weekends
- Either a tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline or at least 5 years' experience in a related field
- Competent with IT
- A solid understanding of pastoral farming systems, with practical experience (desirable)
- Thorough understanding of research process and analytical procedures
- Strong project management skills
- Competent in data collection and collation, including electronic data capture and retrieval
- Ability to communicate effectively
