Canterbury is known for its many and varied lakes, streams and rivers, which provide this low rainfall region with a resource vital to farming, ecology, and recreational users. The water resources include large braided rivers with headwaters in the Southern Alps, to small lowland rivers and lakes.

Our region is the largest and most diverse in New Zealand and this position in Environment Canterbury’s surface water science section offers an excellent opportunity for you to develop your skills. You will be part of a team which monitors the state of our vital surface water resources.

We are currently looking for a Science Technician to join our experienced team collecting surface water information and undertaking data analysis.

To be successful in this role you will be a great team player and ideally have the following:

• Experience in collecting hydrological data collection for scientific analysis
• Experiencing in processing data and preforming quality assurance checks
• An ability to maintain excellent working relationships at all levels
• Great time management skills and a proven ability to prioritise work programmes combined with a flexible and agile approach – you will be adept at juggling multiple priorities and working unsupervised to deliver results
• Excellent Computer Skills
• Current, Full Drivers Licence
• Confident around water and have a good standard of physical fitness
