Pitches Store is a restored heritage building in Ophir, Central Otago. Situated near the Otago Central Rail Trail, the business offers an award winning restaurant and luxury accommodation.

We are looking for an experienced full time Head Chef to manage all aspects of the kitchen. We are passionate about our region and reflect this in our menu. We have twice been regional winner in Silver Fern Farms Competition and have twice won NZ Beef and Lamb Plates. Also we have been recommended by Lonely Planet.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to stamp their own mark in the kitchen. The position will involve running your own team and presenting quality food. To be part of our business will require you to demonstrate the following skills and attributes:

  • a strong understanding of modern New Zealand cuisine, and show an exceptional flair for food and quality presentation. 
  • able to use local and seasonal produce to create an exciting menu
  • the ability to lead and effectively direct others, manage stock control, purchasing and costings
  • show initiative and ability to work under pressure
  • be available to work days, nights and weekends during the season which can mean you will be working extra hours but will be off-set by our closedown for almost 3 months as noted below
  • Deliver a consistently high standard of food quality and presentation
  • Ability to work individually or with others 
  • Baking and pastry skills would be beneficial

We want someone who can maintain and enhance  the excellent (international, national and local) reputation we have established with our customers. 

We welcome and support original menu options. Our business is centred on exceeding customer expectations in everything we do, including providing exceptional culinary experiences for those who dine with us.

We close from early June  and re-open end of August, but your employment would be on an annual basis, giving you the opportunity for travel or other activities during the period we are closed, while still enjoying annual remuneration. 

This position is available from late August.
