One of New Zealand's most unique and fastest growing tourism operations (the only one of its kind in NZ), Glacier Explorers offers an experience to both local and international guests like no other. Starting from the Hermitage Hotel, our team of Drivers and Skippers take our guests on a fun and informative trip through Tasman Valley with a boat excursion right up close to the terminal face of New Zealand's largest glacier.

Working for Glacier Explorers means that you will be based in Aoraki / Mount Cook National Park, a place of outstanding beauty. You will be part of team that prides itself on its customer service and reputation as a one of New Zealand's most unique tourism activities.

What your day will look like

Our Skippers are responsible for sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm for the area with our guests. No day on the Tasman Lake is ever the same as the next and this offers variety and challenge like no other role. Each boat trip will give you the opportunity to connect with guests and explore the unique environment of Aoraki / Mount Cook National Park.

You will be responsible for:

  • Checking in of guests for each trip
  • Speaking with guests and providing safety briefings
  • Driving a boat, ensuring all safety processes are followed
  • Providing informative and entertaining commentary with your own flair and personality
  • Working within the team to ensure guests are provided with a seamless experience
  • Occasional maintenance of boats and vehicles

About you

Our team live and work together so it's important that you have a positive and enthusiastic attitude and enjoy getting along with others. You will also need to flexible in your approach to work and have a willingness to step in and help across the operation wherever you may be needed, this may include working in and around the hotel or within other tourism activities. Due to the extensive training provided, successful applicants will be those looking to commit over at least 2 seasons.

To be successful, you will need:

  • A full, clean NZ drivers licence and proven solid driving experience
  • A current First Aid Certificate or the ability to obtain one
  • A Class 2/4 and P endorsement is an advantage
  • The ability to manage a group and strong public speaking and communication skills
  • Physically fit and healthy as you'll be active all day
  • A love for the outdoors and an outgoing personality  
  • A strong sense of responsibility, commitment and reliability

Further Information:

  • Approximate start date is August 2018
  • All applicants must have the right to work in New Zealand.
  • All positions at Aoraki Mt Cook Alpine Village Ltd have accommodation provided as part of our unique lifestyle package, with the weekly board & lodgings rates including three meals a day and power. Due to the idyllic, isolated location of Mt Cook, you will need to be comfortable working and living in a remote location.
